Why Ambleside?

Many parents want more than academic performance alone. They want a school where their child is known, where good habits are formed gently and intentionally, and where learning remains full of life rather than becoming mechanical or joyless. At Ambleside School of Boerne, we offer a Charlotte Mason education rooted in rich relationships, meaningful ideas, and the belief that children are born persons. Our aim is to help students grow in attention, curiosity, responsibility, and delight in learning — in true partnership with their families.

Every day at Ambleside Boerne, students encounter rich books, meaningful ideas, time outdoors, good habits, and relationships that help them grow. They are invited to attend carefully, think deeply, speak clearly, and delight in the world God has made. Through lessons, narration, recitation, nature study, and the shared life of the classroom, children are formed not only in knowledge but also in character, attentiveness, and a love of learning.

Living Books

Children meet great ideas through rich books rather than watered-down materials. They learn to listen, imagine, remember, and engage deeply with what they read.

Strong Habits

Habits are formed gently and intentionally over time. Students practice attention, responsibility, self-control, diligence, and care for others in the daily life of the classroom.

Time Outdoors

Nature is not an extra at Ambleside; it is part of a full education. Time outside helps children observe carefully, delight in creation, and grow in wonder.

Meaningful Work

Students are asked to think, narrate, recite, calculate, create, and contribute. Their days are filled with work that strengthens both the mind and the will.

Peaceful Atmosphere

Children learn best in an atmosphere of peace, order, and respect. Ambleside classrooms are designed to be calm, relational places where students can grow and thrive.

Known and Loved

At Ambleside, children are treated as whole persons made in the image of God. In small classes and close partnership with teachers, they are known personally and guided with care.

What Parents Begin to See At Home

“From the first day of school, I could tell Ambleside was going to be a different experience for my child. Normally his response to my question, “How was your day?”, would be “Boring” or “I have sooooo much homework.” But now when I ask “How was your day?”, his normal response is “Great!”, and he proceeds to tell me about the things he learned that day. He literally talks for about thirty minutes about what was discussed at school…very unusual for an eleven-year-old. His focus has shifted from merely getting a particular grade on a test, to simply learning….and he’s learning a ton!”
"We are over halfway through our first year at Ambleside. This school is everything I would want for my children. They have a loving and inspiring environment that does not compare to most schools. My son loves going every day, and his love to learn has grown tremendously."
"This school has changed my kid's life. The teachers really care; they go above and beyond every day. They stay in touch throughout the summer. It's like having an extension of our family teaching them.
"When we first became apart of the Ambleside community my children were struggling academically. Due to the small class sizes, Christian environment and the excellent curriculum I have been blessed to watch my children not only reach their potential but be challenged to set new personal and academic goals. Last year, on the last day of school, every Ambleside student stood at the door to their beloved school with tears in their eyes. They begged the principal (Mrs. Boshears) if they could attend school all year round. In all my life I have never witnessed children from kindergarten through sixth grade beg to stay in school instead of having summer break. My children love attending school, their peers and their wonderful teachers."
"We love Ambleside. Our boys are thriving in the school and truly have a love for learning. The teachers and board members love and care about each student and work hard to give the students the proper tools and motivation necessary to succeed."
"Both of our children absolutely love this school! Small class sizes, caring teachers, challenging academics and in a Christian environment is exactly what we were looking for in a school. This experience is preparing them for a passion and love for learning, not just learning for the next test. Analytical and critical thinking are encouraged with self discipline being a part of all aspects of their day. This loving school community uses the child’s interests and the classics as a vehicle for learning. We could not see them at any other school....check it out!"
